Aquinox Pharmaceuticals Inc. is a private, venture-backed, biopharmaceutical company developing novel and targeted small molecule therapeutics for the treatment of inflammatory disease and cancer. The company has a strong intellectual property portfolio and library of pre-clinical drug candidates that target a unique biochemical enzyme called "SHIP1" (SH2-containing inositol-5'-phosphatase), which regulates the PI3 kinase pathway. Aquinox remains on-track to file an Investigational New Drug (IND) application for its lead clinical candidate, AQX-1125, in 2010 with Phase I clinical trials beginning in 2011. We are currently seeking an experienced Research Scientist in Immunology to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design and execution of both research experiments and collaborations in the areas of immunology and inflammation for drug development.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following activities:
- Plan, implement, and execute biology/immunology programs, both internal and external, to meet corporate objectives.
- Prepare project proposals and reports, publish scientifically relevant data in peer reviewed journals.
- Document new laboratory protocols and techniques.
- Supervise junior scientific staff and undergraduate researchers.
- Maintain a broad knowledge of and high degree of competence in the field of molecular immunology.
To be successful in this role, you will have the following qualifications and experience:
- PhD in Immunology or closely related field, with ~5-10 years industry experience in a research environment.
- Knowledge and experience with in vitro immunology techniques; binding and second messenger assays; cell trafficking techniques is required.
- Expertise in T and B cell biology and working knowledge of other areas of immunology and inflammation is essential.
- Knowledge/experience in biomarker development is an asset.
- Technical proficiency and effective problem solving skills.
- Effective communication skills, strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment is essential.
