Having commenced operations in 2006, Aquinox Pharmaceuticals Inc. is a privately-held biopharmaceutical company developing novel and targeted small molecule therapeutics for the treatment of inflammatory disease and cancer. The Company has a strong intellectual property portfolio and library of pre-clinical drug candidates that target a unique biochemical enzyme called "SHIP" (SH2-containing inositol phosphatase) which regulates the PI3 kinase (PI3K) pathway. We are currently looking for a Senior Accountant who will report to the Director of Finance.
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following activities:
- Development, implementation, compliance and maintenance of the company's financial accounting policies and systems in accordance with generally accepted accounting standards for both Canadian and US companies.
- Responsible for all general accounting transactions and preparation of various management reports, Statistics Canada reports, quarter and year end schedules and GST/PST/HST remittance preparations.
- Establishing and maintaining budgetary controls and procedures. Coordinates the preparation of annual and quarterly budgets and forecasts.
- Preparing working papers for tax returns, SRE&D tax credit reports, insurance and other reports required by government regulations and dealings with auditors, external accountants and others on financial matters.
- Responsible for all areas of accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll and related functions.
- Preparing financial statements.
- Performing reconciliations.
- Preparing audit working papers.
- Liaising with external auditors.
- Performing year-end calculations.
- Making regulatory filings.
- Assisting with ERP selection and implementation.
- Other assignments as required.
To be successful in this role, you will have the following qualifications and experience:
- Accounting designation
- Two years experience at the Senior Accountant level
- Strong working knowledge of Simply Accounting
- Experience in system evaluation and implementation is desirable
