Responsibilities

• Day to day responsibility for facilities maintenance and upkeep, including coordination of outside service providers such as janitorial, and waste management, and liaison with building manager regarding site maintenance issues
• Monitors HVAC system for effective operation
• Performs routine basic plumbing, carpentry and lighting repairs
• Weekly ordering, receiving, and inventory control of laboratory chemicals and consumables
• Coordinates site security, including facility card/key security systems, training staff on use as appropriate
• Coordinates preventative maintenance schedules for laboratory equipment
• Oversees maintenance and repairs of laboratory equipment
• Organizes and assists with relocation of office and laboratory equipment as appropriate
• Participates as a member of the Health and Safety Committee
• Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications and Experience

• Degree of Diploma in a life science or related discipline; 2 years directly related experience in facilities maintenance in a similar environment
• Understanding of HVAC, security and building planning issues
• Must be a hands-on problem solver, willing to do what it takes to ensure the smooth operation of a small bio-pharmaceutical facility
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, as well as a can-do attitude
• Creative approach to problem solving
